Presentation @ Festival Fes+Chapeau World Circus Day,
SOM NOISE is a Catalan-French company created in Barcelona at the end of 2017 by Mati and Thaïs. After playing together in a music group, we decided to explore our own dialogue between body and sound from a circus perspective.
Our first creation, Breach (2018-2021), was developed in collaboration with Vivian Friedrich (dramaturgy and co-authorship). We took on the roles of co-authors and performers: Thaïs on aerial rope and movement, and Mati on electric drums and movement.
Our second creation is titled Hybr-ID (2023-2025). It is an exploration of suspension, vibration, and movement between material and human bodies, delving into the boundaries between music, circus, and human behavior in relation to the environment we inhabit.
Our works reflect the company’s identity: authorship, experimentation, poetry, high technical level in both circus and music, and a clear political stance.
The company constantly collaborates with individuals and institutions. So far, it has performed more than 30 shows in Catalonia, Spain, Europe, and Latin America.

Thaïs Julià
Circus Creator, Aerial and Movement Artist, and Project Leader
Born in 1991 in Barcelona and currently based in Toulouse, she is a circus author and creator, working with aerial rope, movement, and performance. Passionate about music, she plays the electric bass and percussion instruments such as the handpan and frame drum, with a particular fascination for connecting jack cables and embracing speakers.
SOM NOISE has been her main project since 2018, where she is co-creator and project director. Additionally, she has worked as an author, co-author, and performer in the fields of circus, dance, and performance at various festivals and projects, including Bowing (Lavrar o Mar, PT), Hiljaisuus Festivaali (FIN), Faki Festival (HR), Rebish Chaud (FR), Andanças (PT), Alta Conductivitat (Big Bouncers, SP), Fractura (Ana Albornoz & Thaïs Julià, SP), Colectivo FREE’T, among others.
Recently, she has begun working in artistic accompaniment and stage direction for circus projects such as Andrea Parra and Silent Veu. In the educational field, she has been teaching stage research seminars and regular aerial rope classes for nine years at institutions such as the Rogelio Rivel Intermediate and Advanced Degree, among many others.
Graduated in Biology (2009-2014, Universities of Barcelona and Lisbon), she has centered her hybrid identity around circus since 2015, constantly questioning its limits. Her specialty is aerial rope, a discipline in which she stands out for her research and uniqueness, receiving recognition for her work in Breach.
Her main training focuses on dance (with Olga Álvarez, Lucas Condró, Linn Johansson, as well as techniques like flying low and contact dance) and performance (with Massana Permanent – MarinaxIsil, Álvaro Prats). She has also studied Grotowski physical theater, music, and various circus disciplines beyond rope, including acro-dance, trapeze, silks, and handstands. She is a certified yoga teacher (Yoga Alliance TTC 200h).
On a personal level, she explores writing, photography, and photo-performance, with her creations often influenced by philosophical references acquired through reading.

Mati Muñoz
Circus Creator, Musician, Performer, and Project Leader
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he moved to Europe at the age of 25 and has been living there since 2013.
From an early age, he was involved in both music and sports. At just four years old, he began practicing various athletic activities, and between the ages of 12 and 18, he studied music, specializing in drums. In parallel, he also took several photography courses.
At 21, he delved into the performing arts, starting with circus disciplines (juggling, floor acrobatics, and handstands) before transitioning to contemporary dance. At 25, he decided to move to Spain to continue his circus studies. He was selected for the Escuela Internacional de Circo y Teatro CAU in Granada, where he studied from 2013 to 2015. After completing his training, he moved to Barcelona to study dance at Inside Movement, while also dedicating himself intensively to the practice of Ashtanga Yoga.
Between 2015 and 2017, he launched his first project, Satyam, with the Ombu company. In 2017, alongside Thaïs Julià and Vivian Friedrich, he co-founded the circus and music company Som Noise, creating its first piece, Breach. In this work, he was a co-creator, performer, and soundscape designer, working with an electronic percussion set fused with acoustic sounds.
He has also participated in other stage projects as a performer and musician. His latest collaborations include Técnicas para un abrazo perfecto with LaBoda cia (Spain), La Partida with Vero Cendoya Cia (Spain), Happy with Cirque Désolé (France), and a project with Santiago Ruiz from Svalbard Company (Sweden).
Additionally, he has published two books of poetry and photography. His most recent work, La Desarreglada Soledad de Mí, has had 18 editions.
